Suspected terrorists have blown up a major bridge connecting Wawa and Luma communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, disrupting movement and economic activities in the region.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 23, 2026.
Abiodun disclosed that the terrorists used explosive devices to destroy the bridge, which serves as the only access route linking the affected communities.
Abiodun disclosed that the police received a report at about 6:30 a.m. indicating that the explosion took place at about 2:00 a.m. along Luma Road within the Park Forest area, affecting the Luma–Babanna–Agwara axis.
He noted that the attack may have been aimed at sabotaging ongoing security operations in the area.

The destruction has left residents stranded, cutting off access between the communities and halting economic activities.
The police spokesperson, however, assured that security agencies have intensified clearance operations in the area, with continuous surveillance underway to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of residents.
The incident comes amid rising concerns over insecurity, as a separate explosion was also reported the same day in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, with casualties reported.
