A three-storey building collapsed on Sunday evening in the Abedi area of Sabongari, Kano State, following a heavy downpour.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m., according to eyewitnesses.
One resident, speaking to our correspondent by phone, said the collapse happened shortly after the rain stopped.
“We just heard a loud sound after the rain, and the building came down,” the witness said.
“People are still inside. We don’t know how many, but some are trapped.”
As of the time of this report, the number of casualties remains unknown. Emergency responders from the fire service, Nigerian Red Cross, and police have launched a search-and-rescue operation at the site.
This marks another tragic incident in Sabongari, occurring less than a year after a similar building collapse in the area claimed the lives of four children from a single family.
