Social media platform TikTok says it did not restrict access to its network in Northern parts of Nigeria.
TikTok’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Keagile Makgoba, made this known in a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, amid reports of difficulties accessing the platform.
Makgoba said TikTok was engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the reported access difficulties.
“We can confirm that this restriction was not implemented by TikTok,” she stated.
Makgoba said the company remained committed to ensuring access for its communities.
Foundation sues TikTok over restrictions in Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto
A coalition of civil society organisations had called for an independent investigation into the reported disruption in parts of Northern Nigeria.
The organisations said users in Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano, and Sokoto states experienced difficulties loading videos, viewing content and uploading materials since September 14.
They urged relevant authorities and telecommunications operators to investigate the cause and publicly clarify whether any directive or technical issue was responsible.
