The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 17, Akure, Mr. Ajani Omolabi, has directed police officers in Ondo and Ekiti States to carry out the enforcement of tinted glass regulations with utmost professionalism.
In a statement issued on Friday in Akure, Omolabi cautioned that any officer caught engaging in extortion or misconduct during the exercise would face strict disciplinary measures, while their supervisors would also be held accountable.
He advised motorists in the two states who have yet to obtain their tinted glass permits to register via https://www.possap.gov.ng and complete physical verification at the police commands in Akure or Ado-Ekiti.
Those unwilling to secure the permit, he added, must remove or replace tinted glasses with transparent ones to avoid sanctions.
According to him, the directive is in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2024 and also covers enforcement of the ban on unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights, and unregistered vehicles.
Omolabi stressed that the measures form part of wider efforts to strengthen national security and curb criminal activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had ordered the nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass law from October 2.
The directive applies to all vehicles with tinted windows, whether factory-fitted or aftermarket modifications.
