Pictures circulating online showing President Bola Tinubu in a meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris have been identified as products of artificial intelligence.
Reports had earlier indicated that Tinubu met with Kagame on Sunday during his stay in the French capital.
However, photographs shared on the president’s official X account bore a visible Grok watermark, indicating they were AI-generated.
The motive behind the use of artificial intelligence imagery to illustrate the meeting has not been officially explained.
Grok is a generative AI chatbot developed by xAI, a company owned by Elon Musk.
The platform is capable of real-time searches and image generation, among other features.
“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” Tinubu wrote on X.
Tinubu had departed Lagos for Europe on December 28 as part of his end-of-year vacation.
