Tinubu appoints General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and improving collaboration among security agencies in addressing emerging threats across the country.

A circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, described Fadewa as a highly experienced retired military officer with more than three decades of service in national security, intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.

The statement noted that Fadewa served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he played a major role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

He was credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, bringing together agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to security threats.

Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, contributing to discussions on policing, national security reform, and civil-security cooperation.

He is also the author of a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which focuses on strengthening collaboration between civil authorities and security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would support the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.

The President also urged Fadewa to deploy his experience and strategic expertise in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
