President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Oyedepo, who previously served with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is moving into the Federal Civil Service following his transfer of service approved by the President.
According to a letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, the appointment was made “in the public interest.”
Oyedepo replaces Abubakar Babadoko, who is due to retire on December 31, 2025, after completing the mandatory eight years as a director.
A graduate of the University of Ilorin (2007) and the Nigerian Law School (2008), Oyedepo is expected to strengthen prosecution capacity within the Ministry of Justice, reduce dependence on external lawyers, and help ensure consistency in the Federal Government’s legal strategy.
He spent over 15 years at the EFCC, where he specialized in prosecuting complex financial and economic crimes and also headed the Monitoring Unit.
He was part of the Federal Government’s legal team in the high-profile Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) case.
Over the course of his career, Oyedepo has received several recognitions, including EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.
