President Bola Tinubu has approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos, as his administration hosted a three-hour interactive session with Plateau State stakeholders aimed at ending the recurring cycle of violence in the state.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Mohammed Dorro announced the fund during Tuesday’s meeting at the State House, Abuja, attended by a 32-member delegation led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
Tinubu challenged the delegation — which included all living former governors of the state — to review past government White Papers on security crises and return with implementable resolutions.
He urged leaders to champion tolerance and called on the governor to identify and name agent provocateurs so they could face the law.
“No protocols, no hindrances — we are here to speak our minds and find a permanent solution to a recurring conflict,” Tinubu said, adding that leaders must stop the recruitment of individuals to instigate tribal conflict and killings.
The meeting fulfilled a promise Tinubu made during his visit to Plateau State following the Angwa Rukuba violence, in which he pledged to convene extensive talks with stakeholders on the state’s security situation.
Speakers at the session identified indigeneship disputes, religion, ethnicity, and farmer-herder clashes as root drivers of conflict.
Christian and Muslim youth representatives pledged to work together toward peace and support the governor.
Gbong Gwon Jos, HRM Da Jacob Gyang Buba, urged the President to deploy additional troops to the state, install CCTV cameras, and fast-track the return of internally displaced persons to their homes ahead of the rainy season.
Governor Mutfwang, who noted it was the first time all former governors of the state had gathered in one room for such a purpose, pledged to build on the momentum and work toward turning conflict into economic opportunity for the state’s people.
