Tinubu brokers peace between Wike, Fubara, Rivers lawmakers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has successfully brokered peace between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and members of the State House of Assembly, bringing an end to the prolonged political crisis in the state.

The resolution followed a late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where all parties reportedly agreed to reconcile their differences.

The political standoff, which began as a power tussle between Wike and Fubara, had escalated into legal battles and threats of impeachment, destabilizing governance in the state.

The crisis intensified earlier in the year, prompting President Tinubu in March to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.

He suspended the Governor, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected lawmakers, and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the interim Administrator.

Sources at the Villa revealed that the peace meeting with the President came after earlier discussions between Fubara, Wike, and the lawmakers.

According to an insider, the meeting was to formally inform the President that the conflict had been resolved.

“From their body language after the meeting, it’s clear that they’ve settled their differences,” the source said.

“The President had earlier urged them to resolve their issues, and it appears that has now been achieved.

“Their visit may have also been to thank him for his role in restoring peace.”

With tensions finally easing, Rivers State may now be on a path back to political stability and effective governance.
