President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Worro community.
The President said the new military formation will lead a special security mission, code-named Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at flushing out terrorists, restoring order and protecting vulnerable communities in the area.
Condemning the attack, Tinubu described the assailants as “cowardly and heartless” for targeting defenceless villagers, noting that the victims were killed for rejecting extremist indoctrination.
He expressed anger that the terrorists attacked residents who chose to practise their faith peacefully rather than embrace violent ideology.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” the President said.
Tinubu also directed closer collaboration between federal and state authorities to provide relief and support to affected families, while stressing that those responsible for the killings must be brought to justice.
He offered prayers for the victims and extended his condolences to their families, as well as to the people and government of Kwara State.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
