President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group backing his administration, to distribute rice across Nigeria to support citizens observing Ramadan and Lent.
The directive was disclosed by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to Uzodinma, the initiative is aimed at promoting national unity and showing compassion during a period of deep spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians.
He noted that the programme reflects the President’s commitment to encouraging solidarity and support among Nigerians during the fasting seasons.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” the statement said.
Uzodinma explained that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors would coordinate the distribution through its grassroots network across the country to ensure that families benefit from the intervention during the religious observances.
The initiative will target both Christian and Muslim communities, reinforcing the administration’s message of inclusivity and unity.
A similar intervention was carried out during the Christmas period last year when rice was distributed to support Nigerians during the festive season, as part of the government’s efforts to assist citizens during major religious and cultural events.
