Tinubu expresses readiness to contest 2023 Presidency

Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday expressed his readiness to contest the 2023 presidential election.

He, however, stated that he is still consulting with the political stakeholders on the clamour of Nigerians to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) promised not to turn down Nigerians, especially his teeming supporters asking him to bid for the Presidency of Nigeria.

Tinubu spoke on Tuesday in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with members of the Northern Alliance Committee.

Tinubu said: “I am not going to turn them (Nigerians) down, but I will still consult widely, particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians.

“The president is still in office. I don’t want to distract him from all the challenges that he might face today. So, we will consult and make our programmes known to the people later and the intention is clear. So, you keep guessing.”

The leader of the group, Ambassador Lawal Ahmed Munir said members of the Northern Alliance Committee have endorsed Tinubu for the 2023 presidency and have resolved to work for his emergence as Nigeria’s next president.

“The meeting ended very well. We are working for him because we know he will win the election when the time comes,” Munir said.
