Tinubu heads economic council, appoints Dangote, Elumelu as members

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC).

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, who made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, said the council was created to bolster the nation’s economic governance frameworks and ensure robust and coordinated economic planning and implementation.

According to the statement, Tinubu is the chairman of the PECC, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is the Vice Chairman of the PECC/NEC Chairman.

Other members of the PECC are Senate President, Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum; Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development; and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.

Also appointed as PECC members are Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Minister of Labour and Employment; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; Minister of Power; Minister of State, Petroleum Resources; Minister of State, Gas; Minister of Transportation; and Minister of Works.

The PECC will also comprise key members of the organised private sector, with the members joining for a period not exceeding one year, subject to the president’s directive.

Those appointed by Tinubu are Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Amina Maina, Begun Ajayi-Kadir, Funke Okpeke, Dr Doyin Salami, and Patrick Okigbo.

Others include Kola Adesina, Segun Agbaje, Chidi Ajaere, Abdulkadir Aliu, and Rasheed Sarumi.
