Tinubu parleys Buhari in Daura after outburst at APC rally

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has visited President Muhammadu Buhari at Daura, the latter’s hometown in Katsina State.

It was gathered that Tinubu, who was accompanied by Katsina State Governor, Bello Masari, and some APC governors, met with President Buhari on Friday night.

Although the details of the meeting could not be ascertained, it was learned that the APC presidential standard bearer met with Buhari over his outburst at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that the two-term former governor of Lagos State at the rally in Abeokuta alleged that there was a grand conspiracy to scuttle the 2023 general election.

Tinubu declared that the current fuel crisis and naira redesign by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were parts of the plot by some people to sabotage the forthcoming polls.

Tinubu, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, added that President Buhari’s efforts in resolving fuel and new naira notes scarcity in Nigeria were being frustrated by some government officials working with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general election.

Onanuga stressed that Tinubu re-echoed what is well-known and acknowledged by Buhari that there are fifth columnists in and outside of the government who often work against good intentions and programmes of the government.

He, however, noted that Tinubu did not blame or accuse Buhari for the current challenges in the country, adding that “no political blackmail and an attempt to create a conflict” between the APC presidential flag-bearer and the President would succeed.

The presidency has yet to speak on the development as of press time.
