President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigerian missions across the world, including 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, noting that the appointments follow the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees in December 2025.
Among the prominent non-career appointees are the former senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim, who has been posted as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, assigned to Mexico; former Abia State Governor, Victor Ikpeazu, deployed to Spain; former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, posted to Qatar; and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, assigned to Germany.
Other non-career ambassadors approved by the president include Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Ita Enang to South Africa, Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Israel, and former Chief of Naval Staff and Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, to the Philippines.
In addition to the non-career diplomats, Tinubu also approved postings for 31 career ambassadors to various countries, including Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, India, Belgium, Switzerland, Iran, and Thailand.
