President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and other forms of insecurity, assuring Nigerians that criminal groups will not be allowed to threaten the nation’s peace and stability.
In a message addressed to members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies on Monday, the president commended security personnel for their dedication, bravery and sacrifices in protecting the country.
Tinubu said terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and violent extremists do not reflect the values of Nigerians and vowed that the government would continue efforts to eliminate security threats across the country.
He praised troops and security operatives serving in challenging environments, including forests, highways, creeks and remote operational bases, noting that their efforts have helped safeguard lives and communities.
“This fight has not been easy. It has come with pain, pressure and sacrifice. But your courage has remained firm. Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured. Your country does not take you for granted,” he said.
The president also recognised the sacrifices made by the families of security personnel, many of whom endure prolonged separations and uncertainty while their loved ones serve on the front lines.
Tinubu paid tribute to officers and personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices continue to strengthen the nation’s security.
“We honour those who have paid the supreme price in defence of our country. Their courage lives on in rescued communities, protected families and the survival of the nation they served,” he stated.
Calling for greater public involvement in tackling insecurity, the president urged citizens to support security agencies with useful and timely information.
“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty. Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he said.
Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to restoring peace and defeating criminal elements operating across the country.
“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed or community,” he added.
The president concluded by thanking security personnel for their continued service and prayed for their safety as they carry out their responsibilities.
