Tinubu, Shettima to spend N9.36bn on travels, food in 2026 budget

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are set to spend a combined total of N9,364,349,417 on local and foreign travels, as well as food and refreshments in the 2026 fiscal year.

The figures were detailed in the 2026 Appropriation Bill released on Thursday by the Budget Office of the Federation.

President Tinubu had presented the budget estimate of N58.18 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025, emphasizing that national security remains the foundation for economic growth, investment, and social stability.

The 2,790-page budget document shows that the President allocated N7,014,596,511 for his local and international travels and N431,620,183 for food, catering materials, supplies, refreshments, and meals.

Vice President Shettima is expected to spend N1,732,106,437 on travel and N186,026,286 on food and related expenses.

A further breakdown indicates that Tinubu’s domestic trips will cost N873,886,689, while foreign travels will take N6,140,709,822.

Shettima’s local travel is estimated at N417,488,198, with international trips set to cost N1,314,618,239.

The budget also earmarks N65.77 million for honorarium and sitting allowances, N895 million for library books and equipment, N179 million for vehicles, N778.6 million for office furniture and fittings, and N1.342 million for health and medical equipment.

Additionally, N89.504 million is allocated for ongoing procurement of Sport Utility Vehicles for both the President and the Vice President.

The Senate had on December 23, 2025, passed the Appropriation Bill for second reading, paving the way for detailed legislative scrutiny of the proposed spending plan.
