President Bola Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, are among the eminent personalities expected to headline the 2025 annual conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
According to a statement signed by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the two-day event will take place on November 12 and 13, 2025, at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Abuja.
The conference, themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” will also feature a sub-theme titled “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”
President Tinubu is billed to declare the conference open, while the Sultan of Sokoto and media mogul Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News and ThisDay newspapers, will serve as chairmen of the event. Governor Uzodimma will deliver the keynote address.
The Guild noted that the conference will provide a credible platform for editors to engage on issues of governance, national unity, and the future of journalism in a rapidly changing environment.
Among the notable speakers are Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Awa Kalu, who will speak on “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics,” and Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, who will address “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
On the second day, former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd.), will discuss “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities,” while Baze University’s Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, will speak on “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”
An executive session will also hold on November 13, where editors will interact with government officials, political leaders, and key figures from the business community.
The NGE said over 500 editors, government representatives, diplomats, and other stakeholders are expected to attend the 2025 conference, which remains a vital forum for discussing national issues with significant social, economic, and political impact.
