The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the apex professional body for Managing Directors, Directors of News, and Editors across print, broadcast, and corporate online platforms, will hold its 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) from November 3 to 6, 2025, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
A statement issued on Sunday by Eze Anaba and Onuoha Ukeh, NGE President and General Secretary, respectively, said the annual conference will be declared open by President Bola Tinubu.
This year’s theme is “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” with the sub-theme “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”
The conference will examine the critical role of editors in fostering democratic governance and national cohesion, discussing both the challenges and opportunities for media professionals in promoting democratic values. Participants will also identify best practices and strategies for editors to advance unity and inclusive governance.
El-Rufai warns Atiku: Tinubu may rule for life if opposition fails to unite
Highlighting the rationale behind the conference, the Guild noted that Tinubu, opposition leaders, and other major stakeholders have consistently emphasised the media’s importance in promoting Nigeria’s diverse unity. In the face of socio-economic challenges, the Guild stressed the need for unity in diversity, shared values, inclusion, dialogue, and understanding as tools for national cohesion.
On the opening day, the ceremony will be attended by Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, other ministers, governors, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the organised private sector.
The conference will feature a keynote address on the main theme, accompanied by papers covering a range of critical issues, including ‘Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics,’ ‘State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation,’ ‘The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap,’ ‘Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities,’ and ‘Wealth Beyond the Newsroom: Investment Opportunities for Editors After Call of Duty.’
Over 500 media professionals from within and outside Nigeria are expected to attend, marking the second time in 12 years that the ANEC will take place in the FCT.
The Guild stressed that the ANEC provides an annual platform for editors to deliberate on national issues with social, economic, and political implications.
