President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for an official state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between both countries.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday titled “President Tinubu to Undertake State Visit to Türkiye.”
According to the statement, the visit is designed to deepen the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye, with a focus on enhancing collaboration in key sectors such as security, education, social development, innovation and aviation. The trip also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the state visit to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in October 2021.
While in Türkiye, President Tinubu is expected to hold strategic political and diplomatic talks with Turkish officials, centred on shared interests in finance, communications, trade and investment.
The programme of events will include meetings between senior government officials from both countries, as well as the signing of several memoranda of understanding. These agreements are expected to cover areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration and protocol.
A business forum bringing together Nigerian and Turkish investors will also be held during the visit to identify and explore investment opportunities of mutual interest.
Members of the Nigerian delegation accompanying the President include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Others on the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
