Afrobeats stars Tiwa Savage and Teni have sparked reactions online after exchanging a playful boxing challenge, with Tiwa accepting Teni’s proposed N1.5bn fight.
Teni, whose real name is Teniola Atinuke Apata, issued the challenge in a viral video posted on Friday, October 2, while discussing the earnings and lavish lifestyles of Nigerian entertainers.
The “Fargin” singer jokingly challenged Tiwa to a boxing match, suggesting a purse of N1.5bn and asking whether the money would be enough to buy a Bugatti.
“Let’s fight, Tiwa Savage and me. Mummy, I will beat you till you enter bush. Me that is angry, I wouldn’t even look at Jamil’s face. I will cut my eyes. One, one billion. How much them dey buy all these cars? If they pay us N1.5 billion, can I buy a Bugatti? Make we first start from there,” Teni said.
She added that she would sing Tiwa’s “My Darling” for her after defeating her.
Tiwa, known for hits including “Somebody’s Son”, responded in the comments section with a brief message: “Pick a date.”
The response quickly fuelled speculation among fans, although there is currently no promoter, contract or confirmed date for a bout between the two singers.
The exchange comes amid growing interest in celebrity boxing in Nigeria, following the recent bout between Big Brother Naija winner Phyna and actress Nkechi Blessing in Lagos.
Phyna knocked out Nkechi Blessing on October 1 in a bout organised under Balmoral Group Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring series.
The series has also featured entertainers including Portable, Charles Okocha, Speed Darlington and Carter Efe.
Carter Efe defeated Portable by unanimous decision at Chaos in the Ring 4, while Portable had previously defeated Okocha and Speed Darlington.
