Tragedy in Kano: Pregnant woman, 18-month-old baby brutally killed at home

Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu, a quiet neighbourhood in Kano metropolis, were thrown into shock and deep mourning on Saturday night following the brutal murder of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.

The horrifying incident came to light when the woman’s husband returned from work at about 8 p.m. and found their home unusually locked.

Neighbours reportedly informed him that his wife had neither gone out nor left a spare key behind.

Alarmed, the man forced his way into the house, only to discover the lifeless bodies of his pregnant wife and toddler son.

The victims had been viciously attacked and set ablaze, leaving the scene almost unrecognisable.

News of the killings spread rapidly through the community, plunging residents into fear and grief.

Many described the crime as one of the most gruesome incidents ever recorded in the area.

Confirming the development, a community leader, Ahmad Sani, said residents rushed to the house after hearing the husband’s distress cries.

He alleged that the victims were not only killed but also mutilated before their bodies were burned.

Sani lamented the lack of security in the neighbourhood, recalling that residents had earlier constructed a police outpost to enhance safety, but security personnel were never deployed to man it.

He appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently deploy security operatives to the area to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declined to provide details, stating only that investigations were ongoing and that findings would be made public in due course.
