The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 18 people lost their lives in a road accident in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
In a statement issued in Dutse, the FRSC spokesperson in the state, Route Commander Yahaya Ibrahim, said the accident involved two Volkswagen cars and a tipper truck. He explained that excessive speeding and a tyre burst led to loss of control.
The crash occurred at about 12:15 p.m. at Danmasara village along the Dutse–Kwanar Huguma road.
According to Ibrahim, 20 people were involved in the crash.
Eighteen died, while the tipper driver and his assistant sustained injuries. The victims were taken to Dutse General Hospital by FRSC personnel.
The agency noted that the incident came days after another crash on December 25 along the Ringim–Sankara–Beguwa road, where 11 people died and 12 were injured.
That accident also involved a Volkswagen vehicle and was linked to speeding and a tyre burst.
