Transfer: USA target Klopp as coach, Palhinha joins Bayern for £47m

The United States of America (USA) have identified Jurgen Klopp as a top target as they seek a new coach to replace Gregg Berhalter, with initial contact made with the former Liverpool manager.

Dani Olmo’s £50 million release clause is set to expire on Monday – the day after the Euro 2024 final in Berlin – and clubs from both the Premier League and LaLiga appear ready to pounce for the RB Leipzig midfielder.

Tottenham continue to be keen on Eberechi Eze and have been tipped to fight for Rennes youngster Desire Doue, who is also of interest to half of Europe.

Didier Deschamps will remain as France’s head coach until the World Cup in 2026, the French FA president has revealed.

Joao Palhinha has left Fulham to join Bayern Munich in a permanent transfer. Bayern will pay Fulham £47.16 million (€56 million) plus add-ons for the 29-year-old which would see the deal become the most expensive sale in the Premier League club’s history.

The Portugal midfielder nearly joined Bayern last summer, but the move fell through on Deadline Day.

Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl said: “Joao Palhinha was already highly regarded at FC Bayern last summer – and rightly so! It was important that we never lost contact.

“Joao really wanted to come to FC Bayern and we need players like him. He is an important building block for our future.”

The 2024 summer transfer window in the Premier League and Scottish Premiership is officially open.

The window will close on August 30 at 11 p.m. UK time in England and at 11:30 p.m. in Scotland.

The Premier League and Scottish Premiership brought forward Deadline Day to link up with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
