The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has upheld the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state.
This was after the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate in Delta State, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, for lacking merit.
Delivering judgement on Friday, September 29, 2023, the three-member tribunal led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, declared that the petitioners (APC and Omo-Agege) failed to prove allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and corrupt practices beyond a reasonable doubt
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the gubernatorial election.
The PDP candidate polled 360,234 votes while Omo-Agege garnered 240,229 votes in the election.
