Troops ambush terrorists in Sokoto, recover six AK-47 rifles

Combined troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) have disrupted a terrorist cell in Sokoto State, recovering six AK-47 rifles in a coordinated counter-terrorism operation.

Security sources said the operation was carried out after credible intelligence revealed that the terrorists were moving towards Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area to launch an attack on civilians.

Following weeks of surveillance, the troops laid an ambush along the suspected route and engaged the insurgents as they rode on motorcycles from a nearby forest.

During the encounter, one of the terrorists was neutralised, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot injuries, abandoning their planned attack.

A search of the area after the operation led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 18 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The sources added that troops have since intensified patrols and sustained a strong security presence in the area to prevent further threats.

According to them, the operation highlights the determination of the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to safeguard lives and property, and reinforces public confidence in the ability of security forces to counter terrorism and maintain peace.
