Troops arrest bandits’ supplier, intercept 2,000 ammunition in Kaduna

The troops of Operation Forest Sanity have intercepted over 2,000 rounds of various grades of ammunition being conveyed to bandits by a courier, Aminu Abdullahi, around Polewire in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made this known via a statement issued on Thursday, April 13.

Aruwan noted that the ammunition was intercepted after the troops acted on credible intelligence around gunrunning activities and stopped a suspicious-looking Toyota Corolla vehicle around Polewire.

The commissioner disclosed that items concealed in different parts of the car were 1,079 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 886 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition and 139 rounds of 7.62mm tracer ammunition.

He stated that five empty AK-47 magazines were also recovered by the troops, adding that the driver of the vehicle, Abdullahi, is in custody for further investigation.

Aruwan further quoted Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as thanking the troops for their proactiveness in denying bandits a major supply of ammunition meant to mete out more destruction and suffering.

El-Rufai also appreciated the leadership of the General Officer Commanding, One Division, Major General T.A. Lagbaja, for the latest notable breakthrough recorded.

The governor, however, urged security operatives to proceed with a thorough investigation of the arrested suspect and intensify efforts towards dismantling gunrunning networks across Kaduna State.
