Troops of the 176 Guards Battalion have arrested a suspected impostor who allegedly posed as a serving Nigerian Army soldier at the Dantata Checkpoint in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspect was apprehended on July 26 after arriving at the military checkpoint and asking soldiers to intervene in a dispute with one of his passengers.
According to security sources, the unusual request raised suspicion, prompting the troops to question him. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect was identified as an Uber driver who allegedly falsely claimed to be a serving soldier.
A search conducted on him reportedly led to the recovery of a forged Nigerian Army identity card, which investigators believe he used to support his false claim.
The suspect has been taken into custody for further investigation as security authorities work to determine the extent of his activities and whether he is connected to a wider impersonation or fraud network.
