Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have uncovered a stash of high-calibre ammunition in the Bulumkutu Railway area of Maiduguri, strengthening ongoing security efforts across the North-East.
The discovery followed continuous patrols and intelligence-led operations aimed at restricting the activities of criminals and terrorists.
According to a statement by OPHK media officer, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, troops received a report at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday about suspicious metal objects found inside a drainage channel.
Soldiers, working with Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers, moved to the location to secure the area.
A careful search led to the recovery of 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, along with other items hidden inside the drain.
Safety measures were immediately put in place, and security personnel continued to clear the drainage to ensure no additional threats remained.
Troops and other security agencies also increased patrols around the community to protect residents and prevent anyone from attempting to retrieve the items.
No injuries or incidents were recorded, and the situation remains calm. Lt. Col. Uba said the operation shows the value of intelligence gathering, military vigilance, and cooperation from members of the public.
He urged residents to stay alert and report anything unusual to security agencies, noting that community support is essential to keeping the North-East safe.
