Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working with other security agencies, have foiled a bandit attack and recovered 45 rustled animals after armed men invaded a Fulani settlement in Jibia Local Government Area.
Security sources said the attack occurred at about 10:50 p.m. on February 20 when suspected bandits stormed the Gogalo Fulani Settlement Camp along the Nigeria–Niger border and rustled several goats.
During the assault, the attackers reportedly shot and injured a 25-year-old resident, Abdullahi Wada, before fleeing toward the border.
Following a distress call, troops alongside joint patrol teams comprising police, military personnel and community watch operatives were deployed to the area.
The injured victim was evacuated to the General Hospital in Jibia for treatment.
Security operatives later blocked suspected escape routes at the Yan No-No area, where they intercepted the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a gun battle.
The attackers were eventually overpowered and forced to abandon the stolen livestock as they escaped through nearby bush paths.
All 45 rustled animals were recovered, while authorities said efforts were ongoing to track down the suspects.
Patrols have also been intensified across border communities to prevent further attacks.
