Troops of the 159 Military Battalion in Kanamma have intercepted suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attempting to strip roofing sheets from a primary school in Ngamma village, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on February 9, when armed insurgents reportedly stormed Ngamma Primary School and began removing the roofing zinc. The attackers allegedly coerced some local youths to assist in dismantling the structure.
Soldiers were swiftly deployed to the scene and engaged the assailants, forcing them to abandon their operation.
During the exchange, a stray bullet injured a 19-year-old resident, Umar Maigari, who sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg.
He was evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Geidam, where he is receiving treatment and responding to care.
Authorities said the situation has since been brought under control, while monitoring and intelligence operations have been intensified to prevent further attacks in the area.
