Soldiers deployed under the Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe have thwarted an attempt to vandalise an oil well-head in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, recovering dynamite and other explosive materials at the scene.
The incident occurred at about 11:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, when troops of 5 Battalion, stationed at the Opokushi Delta Company, acted on intelligence reports of suspicious activity around Well-head 40 in the area.
According to sources, soldiers arrived at the location and engaged the suspected vandals, who abandoned their equipment and fled into surrounding bushes.
A subsequent search of the scene led to the discovery of dynamite and other items believed to have been intended for sabotaging the facility.
A bomb disposal team was promptly deployed to the scene but initially encountered difficulty safely disconnecting the explosive devices due to the risk of detonation.
Efforts to neutralise and remove the explosives were still ongoing as of the time of this report, with troops maintaining heightened surveillance across the general area.
Security forces reaffirmed their commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and preventing acts of economic sabotage.
