Troops of Operation MESA under the Nigerian Army’s 3 Brigade have thwarted a bandit attack on several villages in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 armed bandits during a fierce gun battle.
The operation took place on Saturday evening, November 1, after the military received intelligence that gunmen were advancing toward Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse communities.
In a statement, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade, said troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly intercepted the attackers and engaged them in combat.
“During the encounter, 19 bandits were neutralized, while several motorcycles and two mobile phones were recovered,” he said.
Zubairu confirmed that two soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives in the operation.
He added that troops were still patrolling the area to ensure total safety and prevent reprisal attacks in communities previously affected by cattle rustling and banditry.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements, assuring them that the Army remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the state.
The 3 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to protect law-abiding citizens and restore public confidence through continued collaboration with other security agencies.
