Troops kill 44 terrorists, foil IED attack in Borno

The troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have intensified offensive operations against terrorist groups in Borno State, killing 44 terrorists and thwarting an improvised explosive device (IED) attack during separate intelligence-led missions.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Goni said the troops carried out coordinated operations against suspected terrorist hideouts in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State on October 26 following intelligence reports and surveillance.

Goni said a battle damage assessment showed that 28 terrorists were neutralised, while six others sustained injuries during the engagements.

He noted that the Maritime Component of Naval Base Lake Chad in Baga launched offensive operations against terrorist positions within the Lake Chad axis on October 28.

“Preliminary assessments indicated that eight terrorists were neutralised, while 10 others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the army spokesman stated.

Goni disclosed that the Air Component, in a separate operation, conducted an interdiction mission that disrupted a suspected terrorist team’s attempt to plant improvised explosive devices.

Goni said the airstrike neutralised eight suspected terrorists and destroyed the insurgents’ vehicle, motorcycles, and IED-making materials, preventing the planned attack.

“These successes reflect the sustained pressure being exerted on terrorist networks through intelligence-led joint operations. OPHK remains committed to degrading terrorist capabilities, restricting their freedom of action and protecting communities across the North East,” he added.

Goni urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria.
