Troops kill notorious bandit leader ‘Dan Dari Biyar’ in Sokoto

Troops under Operation Fansan Yanma have eliminated a notorious bandit leader, Dan Dari Biyar, during a clearance operation in the western part of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

A reliable military source confirmed the operation took place on Thursday as Biyar attempted to collect ransom from relatives of kidnap victims in the forest corridor spanning Turtsawa, Mazau, and Zango villages.

Dan Dari Biyar, notorious for his cruelty towards victims and outrageous ransom demands, was based in Tidibale forest, from where he coordinated deadly attacks across Lalle, Tsamaye, and Gwaronyo, including the burning of Gidan Sale village along the Gundumi axis.

Military intelligence linked him to several raids, ambushes, and acts of arson across Sokoto East senatorial district.

The successful raid, carried out by Nigerian Army troops in collaboration with local security volunteers under the Sokoto State Government’s community protection initiative, marks a significant step in the ongoing offensive against armed banditry in the region.

Arms, ammunition, and communication gadgets were recovered at the scene, while efforts are underway to track down fleeing gang members.
