Troops of the Nigerian Army have discovered and safely neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) during a fighting patrol in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation took place at about 6:35 a.m. on March 14, following intelligence indicating the movement of suspected fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram around the Deyawa general area.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Quick Reaction Force, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters, launched a fighting patrol to dominate the area and prevent potential terrorist activities.
During the patrol, the team discovered an IED planted along the Deyawa main supply route.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attached to the patrol was immediately called in and successfully neutralised the device, disposing of it safely at the location.
Military sources said the patrol formed part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations aimed at clearing explosive threats, securing key supply routes and restricting the movement of insurgents across operational areas in Borno State.
