Troops of the Joint Military Task Force in Plateau State, Operation Enduring Peace, have killed three suspected terrorists and arrested two individuals accused of attempting to set residential buildings ablaze in separate security operations across the state.
The development was disclosed on Friday in a statement by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Oteh.
According to the statement, troops deployed to restore calm in the troubled Jos North Local Government Area carried out a targeted operation in the Dutse Uku community, where they apprehended two suspects allegedly posing as security operatives while taking part in acts of arson and violence.
The suspects, who were reportedly dressed in black tactical uniforms, were arrested at the scene and are currently in military custody.
Oteh added that two persons who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident are receiving medical treatment.
In a separate operation conducted in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops foiled what was described as a large-scale movement of terrorists, killing three insurgents in the process.
The military spokesperson said the success was made possible by the strategic deployment of specialised counter-terrorism forces, aimed at strengthening Plateau State’s security framework.
Providing further details on the Dutse Uku incident, Oteh said:
“At about 11:45 pm, vigilant troops responding to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Dutse Uku general area intercepted and arrested two individuals masquerading as security personnel.
The suspects, dressed in tactical black uniforms, were caught actively participating in the burning of residential properties and the coordination of violence within the community.”
The task force called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest authorities.
The statement reaffirmed the military’s resolve to restore lasting peace in the state.
“Through continued cooperation and the current strategic offensive, the military remains committed to ensuring the permanent restoration of safety and order for all citizens,” it added.
