Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
In a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s X handle, Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of an associate of suspected criminal leader, John Ngata.
He explained that troops mounted a snap checkpoint at Zaki-Biam, where a suspect was intercepted.
During questioning, the suspect reportedly led soldiers to a concealed armoury in Amadu village.
According to the statement, the troops recovered 13 AK-47 rifles, 39 magazines, 690 rounds of ammunition and four hand grenades. The armoury was later destroyed.
The Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and effective use of intelligence, noting that the raid disrupted a criminal supply network.
He thanked members of the public for their support and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security forces, assuring them of confidentiality and prompt action.
Gara also acknowledged the support of the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, and reiterated the operation’s commitment to peace and security across its area of responsibility.
