Troops recover drone after encounter with ISWAP fighters in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered a drone after an encounter with suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a fighting patrol in the Izge area of Borno State.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on December 30 in the Pridang general area.

Soldiers from the Forward Operating Base in Izge were on patrol with volunteer forces when they spotted a group of suspected terrorists believed to be on a surveillance mission.

Intelligence suggested the group planned to use an ultra-light drone to monitor military movements and nearby communities.

Troops reportedly opened fire, forcing the suspects to retreat and abandon the device.

A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of the drone along with its full accessories.

The recovered equipment has been secured as investigations continue.
