Troops rescue kidnap victim, recover AK-47 in Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a 28-year-old kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Kogi State.

The operation was conducted by troops of the 2 Division Nigerian Army operating from Patrol Base Obajana.

According to the Army, the victim escaped from his abductors and encountered the troops, telling them he had been kidnapped from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory about five weeks ago.

Acting on information provided by the victim, the troops moved to the location where he was allegedly held captive.

The suspected kidnappers reportedly fled into the surrounding area after sighting the soldiers.

During a search of the location, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

The rescued victim was evacuated to the troops’ medical facility, where he is receiving medical attention.

The Army said its troops were continuing efforts to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their criminal network.

It added that the operation was part of its sustained efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes through intelligence-driven operations.

The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and working with other security agencies to improve security across affected communities.
