Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed eight terrorists during a clearance operation in Kayamla and Sojiri villages of Borno State, according to military sources.
The operation, conducted under the ongoing offensive tagged Desert Sanity V, involved coordinated patrols and search missions aimed at flushing out suspected fighters of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) believed to be hiding in the area.
Sources said the troops, operating alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), encountered the insurgents during a gun battle, which led to the neutralisation of eight of them. Several others were said to have escaped, abandoning weapons and other personal items, including AK-47 rifles.
The military confirmed that no soldiers were injured and no equipment was damaged during the operation.
Troops are said to be sustaining patrols and clearance activities in nearby enclaves to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or returning to the area.
