Trump orders fuel retailers to cut petrol prices

United States President Donald Trump has called on gasoline retailers across the country to immediately reduce fuel prices, arguing that falling global oil prices should be reflected at the pump.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said retailers were charging excessively despite crude oil trading at about $68 per barrel, which he said was on a downward trend.

“Gasoline retailers must get their prices down immediately,” Trump wrote, adding that retailers should “do what they know is right” by lowering prices for American consumers.

The president warned that there would be “no gouging,” describing price gouging as illegal, and cautioned that retailers who failed to reduce prices could face “big problems.”

Trump also urged fuel retailers to target a gasoline price of about $2.50 per gallon, saying Americans deserved to benefit from lower oil prices.

He further criticised California’s fuel tax policy, accusing the state of imposing excessive taxes on gasoline.

According to Trump, California’s taxes were becoming so high that they could eventually exceed the value of the fuel itself, placing an unfair burden on motorists.

He argued that both the federal government and California residents should reject what he described as excessive taxation on fuel, insisting that consumers should not bear unnecessary costs while crude oil prices continue to decline.
