Thousands of Twitter users in Nigeria have urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to present former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, and the former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as the party’s flag bearers for the 2023 presidential election.
Obi, the running mate of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, declared his intention to vie for the PDP presidential ticket, noting that he would run for the post of Nigeria’s President in 2023 if his party zones its ticket to the Southern region of the country.
This is just as Kwankwaso also declared his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in the next year presidential election on the platform of major opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
It would be recalled that Kwankwaso was among the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirants who contested against Buhari for the party’s ticket in 2015.

However, Nigerian tweeps have since taken to the micro-blogging site, urging the main opposition party to present the two heavyweight politicians as the presidential candidate and the running mate for the 2023 poll.

A Peter Obi and Kwankwaso ticket will do the magic in 2023. pic.twitter.com/vGge05Xa7F

If Peter Obi gets the ticket and Kwankwaso agrees to be his running mate.
Down West, APC & PDP will share the Votes because of "Omo Igbo" sentiments with some Yorubas
Kwankwaso will lock down Kano and some other Northern states.
It's now left to the East to Support their OWN!

In Nigeria, what you order & what you could get, are not the same. Peter Obi will have a fighting chance in the PDP
In APGA, he’ll be defeated by Tinubu, Osinbajo or Amaechi. A tree cannot make a forest. Peter will need Atiku, Wike, Saraki, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, to stand a chance

Kwankwaso believes PDP should zone to the south.
Kwankwaso has the northern pull to assist Peter Obi. I hope PDP will do its homework.
I hope Atiku puts Nigeria first and not his ambition ahead of the lives of over 200 million people.#Peterobi

I’ve come to realize that so many people don’t understand politics in Nigeria.
Somebody said Obi/Kwankwaso will sell and someone replied saying why must it be a northerner.
Truthfully, you can’t win an election in Nigeria today if you don’t have the north locked down.

Meanwhile, the party primaries that would lead to the emergence of candidates are, however, expected to hold later in 2022.
