Two rescued after building collapses in Abuja

Two residents have been rescued after part of a one-storey building collapsed in Kubwa, Abuja, on Friday.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page, when the right wing of the six-flat residential building suddenly collapsed.

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) said it received a distress call about the incident at approximately 11:38 a.m.

Two tenants were trapped inside a ground-floor apartment when the section of the building collapsed. Emergency responders subsequently pulled them from the rubble and took them to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

According to FEMD, both victims were in stable condition.

Other occupants of the building were reportedly not around when the incident occurred, preventing further casualties.

Several household belongings were destroyed in the collapse.

Officials from the FCT Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command were deployed to the scene to secure the area and manage the aftermath.

Authorities are expected to assess the structure and determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
