UBA foundation expands pan-African outreach, delivers aid to vulnerable communities

UBA Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has reinforced its pan-African humanitarian efforts by distributing essential supplies worth millions of naira and dollars to vulnerable communities across Nigeria and 19 other African countries.

Through its Food Bank and Giving Back initiatives, the Foundation reached more than 100,000 beneficiaries between November 2025 and January 2026. The intervention targeted schoolchildren, orphanages, internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and underserved communities, with the aim of easing financial pressures typically associated with the end of the year and the start of a new one. The initiative underscores UBA Foundation’s commitment to promoting hope, resilience and social well-being in the communities where the bank operates.

In Nigeria, the outreach spanned all regions of the country. Beneficiaries included the Daughter of Mercy Mother of Mary Orphanage Home in Abia; Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and the Helpless in Ebonyi; the Destitute Home, Okobaba in Lagos; Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation in Oyo; Itsoghena Orphanage Home in Edo; Enoima Children’s Home in Akwa Ibom; Yekope Orphanage in Kogi; IDP camps in Niger and Borno states; UMCN Orphanage Home in Taraba; Kebbi Children’s Home; and the Orphanage Home in Dutse, Jigawa State.

Similar humanitarian and nutritional support was extended to UBA’s subsidiaries across the rest of Africa, including Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, where hundreds of thousands of people were also impacted.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, who personally visited some beneficiary institutions such as the Destitute Home in Okobaba, Lagos, said the Foundation is committed to making a year-round impact that transcends geography and economic barriers. During the visits, she distributed non-perishable food items and educational materials to both children and adults.

“At UBA Foundation, we believe that true development begins with compassion and action,” Atta said. “Through our Food Bank and Giving Back initiatives, we are not only providing nourishment and essential support, but also restoring hope and creating opportunities for children and families to learn, grow and thrive. This is our commitment to Africa—to show up consistently, act responsibly and leave no community behind.”

She added that the Foundation’s interventions are designed to equip beneficiaries with both essential tools and proper nutrition, which are critical for cognitive development and physical well-being.

UBA Foundation has a long history of philanthropy across the continent, with programmes such as the National Essay Competition, Read Africa Project, Tree Planting for Sustainability, health outreaches, Each One Teach One, Kindness Connect and the Food Bank initiative, all aimed at empowering the underprivileged and alleviating poverty.

As the CSR arm of the UBA Group, the Foundation remains focused on driving socio-economic development in its host communities, with emphasis on education, environmental sustainability, economic empowerment and special development projects.
