Governor Uba Sani has hailed the collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and the World Health Organization (WHO), describing it as instrumental in improving immunization coverage and strengthening the state’s disease prevention and control systems.
Speaking through his Deputy, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, during an advocacy visit by the WHO team to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the governor noted that the partnership has significantly enhanced Kaduna’s health surveillance architecture and advanced the goal of universal health coverage.
“The technical and operational support provided by the WHO team has enabled us to respond swiftly and effectively to public health challenges—from polio eradication to managing endemic and epidemic diseases,” Dr Balarabe said.
She emphasized that the visit offers an opportunity to deepen cooperation, align priorities, and jointly develop innovative strategies to tackle both persistent and emerging health challenges in Kaduna communities.
“We are particularly focused on strengthening local capacity, ensuring the sustainability of health interventions, and reaching underserved populations,” she added.
Dr Balarabe, a medical doctor, reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving health and well-being through strategic reforms and infrastructure development. She highlighted efforts already made, such as expanding access to primary healthcare, improving maternal and child health services, and reinforcing the state’s disease monitoring systems.
“Nonetheless, we acknowledge that more needs to be done to build a resilient, equitable, and people-centered healthcare system,” she admitted.
While expressing gratitude to WHO for its continued support to Kaduna and Nigeria as a whole, Dr Balarabe reaffirmed the state’s dedication to maintaining a strong and impactful partnership.
“Kaduna State will continue to create a supportive environment for WHO’s work and ensure that our shared goals translate into measurable improvements in health outcomes,” she concluded.
