Uba Sani hails Buhari as patriot, statesman in tribute

Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot, a reformer, and a beloved leader whose life of service left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued on Sunday, Governor Sani said Buhari’s death is a profound loss not just to his family and home state of Katsina, but to the entire nation.

“To us, he was more than a leader — he was a moral compass, a father figure, and a steady voice in times of uncertainty,” the governor stated. “His legacy will live on in the ideals he upheld, the institutions he strengthened, and the millions he inspired.”

Governor Sani praised Buhari’s unwavering commitment to discipline, integrity, and public accountability, noting his influence from his days in the military to his two-term tenure as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023.

“Though a military General, he chose the difficult path of democratic reinvention,” Sani said.

“He believed deeply in the rule of law, due process, and the supremacy of the people’s will.”

He also highlighted Buhari’s deep connection with the masses, describing him as “a man of Spartan simplicity” who consistently stood with the ordinary Nigerian — “the talakawa.”

On behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State, Governor Sani extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.

“We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, grants President Muhammadu Buhari eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.

“Nigeria has lost a statesman. History has gained a legend.”
