Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Uba Sani, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
Sani defeated two other aspirants to emerge as the APC flagbearer for the 2023 election in Kaduna State.
Ahead of the Thursday’s primaries, the federal lawmaker was endorsed as the consensus candidate of Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s Core Team for the Kaduna State governorship seat in 2023.
Chairman of the APC electoral committee, Anachuna Henry, declared Senator Sani as the winner of the governorship primaries having polled 1,149 votes out of the 1,196 votes cast.
A retired Assistant Controller of Customs, Bashir Abubakar, came a distant second with 37 votes while a former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sha’aban, secured 10 votes.
After the conclusion of voting at 2:15a.m., the 39 votes were declared invalid.
The primary election was held at the Umaru Yar’Adua hall of the Murtala Square.
In his acceptance speech, Uba Sani thanked the delegates and party officials for the support.
The governorship candidate promised to reach out to the two other aspirants who lost the contest, tasking them to work for the party.
