Uba Sani raises traditional rulers’ pay, approves security allowances

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved increased salaries and allowances for traditional rulers across the state, alongside monthly security allowances for the 35 Emirates and Chiefdoms.

The new security allowance takes effect from September 1, 2026, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki.

The salary and allowance review covers Emirs, Chiefs, District Heads and Village Heads across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts.

Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, said the measures were designed to improve the welfare of traditional rulers and enhance their ability to perform their responsibilities at the grassroots.

He said the security allowances were specifically intended to strengthen community-level intelligence gathering and improve collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies in preventing and responding to crime.

Lagos described traditional rulers as important partners in grassroots administration, peacebuilding and conflict resolution, noting that their proximity to residents gives them an advantage in identifying emerging security threats.

“Our traditional rulers are the custodians of our communities and a critical link between government and the people,” he said.

He added that the enhanced government support would come with increased expectations, urging traditional rulers to intensify efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and resolve disputes before they escalate.

Lagos also called on the royal institutions to foster trust and harmony among Kaduna’s diverse ethnic and religious communities.

Maiyaki said the decisions reflected the Sani administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and equipping them to contribute more effectively to security, peace and development.

He urged residents to support traditional rulers and security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could help protect lives and property across the state.
