Uba Sani urges governors to uphold Nigerians’ right to free movement

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called on his counterparts across the country to uphold the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freedom of movement, as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Speaking during a condolence visit to Kudan Local Government Area, Governor Sani emphasized that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental duty of any government, regardless of citizens’ state of origin or background.

“Whether you are from Kaduna or not, once you reside in the state, it is our responsibility to safeguard your life and ensure you live in peace,” he stated.

The Governor was in Kudan to sympathize with families of 12 travellers from the area who were killed in Mangu, Plateau State, while heading to a wedding. He led a delegation of senior government officials and praised the community for maintaining peace and refraining from reprisal attacks.

He recalled sending a team led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. AbdulKadir Muazu Meyere, to visit the bereaved families immediately after the incident. He also visited injured survivors at the 44 Military Hospital in Kaduna.

Governor Sani commended the peaceful coexistence in the area, citing remarks from the local Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who affirmed harmonious relations between Christians and Muslims in the community.

“This shows that Kaduna is a diverse but united state, and we have had no ethno-religious conflict in the past two years due to our strong political will to sustain peace,” the Governor said.

As part of his visit, he pledged to construct a hospital and tar the road linking Kudan to Basawa in Sabon Gari Local Government, in recognition of the community’s peaceful disposition.

Earlier, Kudan Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Dauda Iliya Abba, lauded the Governor’s empathy and commitment, noting that his concern since the attack reflects true leadership. He assured that there would be no retaliatory actions in response to the killings in Plateau State.
